So....this is HOME?

Could you imagine!?
Some of you have probably been wondering why I haven't said anything about my dorm room. Upon arrival to Germany, I was told the room wasn't ready and so I've been living in a temporary location up until yesterday. Finally, I am unpacked and no longer living out of a suitcase (YAY!).

The dorm room is.....a joke small. There are only 5 drawers and I share a bathroom with a coworker. The windows face the flightline (read: LOUD), and there isn't any air conditoning (read: HOT). I'm on the 3rd floor, so going up and down the stairs is already annoying. BUT.....it's mine and this is where I will be until November.

Oh, btw there is raw sewage leaking from the toilet. Great.

To give you a little perspective on how huge this adjustment is, here is a brief synopsis of what I was living in:
BEFORE: 7 bedroom brick home, 3400 square feet and a 1/2 acre corner lot
NOW: 200 square feet

THIS IS BEFORE.........
The dining room

Living room. I know...the 70's chair doesn't fit in, but it's comfy!

Kitchen and breakfast bar

Front door. I sanded, stained and finished this myself.

The living room fireplace. It was originally glossy white - bleh

The bar with a vintage hanging light

The Media Room

The gym - no excuses to work out when the gym is downstairs

The master

THIS IS NOW.....

Living room, bedroom and office

Kitchen and Media Room with an extra bonus - a safe in the weirdest spot ever.

I actually like this green - it's funky

The dressing room -slash- bathroom sink

The shared bathroom

This has amazing water pressure - and boiling water
So overall, it's not as bad as it could be. There is new carpet and it seems fairly clean besides the sewage mess in the bathroom. I've been busy decorating (as best as I can considering the limited options). I'll post updated photos next week.

Wow- that is a huge adjustment! I'm sure you'll find many ways to make it feel 'homely' though. :) I have full faith! hehe...

Oh, raw sewage is never a good thing! And I know this might be rubbing salt in the wound, but the door on your last place is GORGEOUS!

I love, love, LOVE the door on your old place, too! I can relate. When I was in the Navy, it was never fun to compress life to a closet and limited storage. Sounds like you've got a pretty positive attitude, but I hope that sewage problem gets under control!

Thank you for the sweet comments!

The front door was a true labor of love. It took over a month to finish all of the layers and to get it hung correctly. When I bought the house, it was 1940's meets 1970's (in a bad way) - so over the past 5 years I've basically remodeled 75% of it. Money pit for sure!

Hi Ms. Clutterholic - I had no idea you were in the navy. Did you ever serve of a sub? I couldn't even imagine.

I try to keep a positive attidude on most things. Complaining doesn't seem to help, so I focus on being grateful for what I do have and it makes life so much more enjoyable. Not that I don't have my days........

Green Tea and Okeeka: Raw sewage - I know, super gross. I don't smell it, but there is a towel underneath the plumbing to remind you its there. Hopefully it gets fixed today.

The military is so weird about things. I can't travel anywhere for 2 weeks as a safety precaution, but raw sewage in my room? Hey - thats ok, no biggie.

First of all--- I love LOVE LOVE your home! Its gorgeous! And that front door... amazing. Ugh, one day we will have our own house... but it will be in the middle of 20 acres so I doubt we'll be able to afford THAT nice of a house after we buy the land. lol. But I'll make sure to have a stunning door.

And your dorm room... Ya, its kind of blah. but its not horrible. But still such a change to get use to! I am sure though, with everything you get to enjoy there, that it is an even exchange.

I heard there is a club in your area that has been deemed off limits for all military personnel for 45 days. I wonder what happened there. Its called 'black sounds club'.

That is a SMALL space to live in for 5 months! Ack! But it is better than a barrack, so I guess that is the bright side. Is someone going to fix the sewage?
