The 'I'VE BEEN SICK' diet.

Sudden problems with my gallbladder have forced me to do a EXTREME DETOX (mom, don 't freak out). From my previous diet of crap: chocolate, doner kebap, hot dogs, french fries, beer, ice cream and cheese - the amount of FAT in my diet caused my gallbladder to fight back with extreme pain and internal bleeding.

For the last 3 weeks I have GIVEN UP:
  • Sugar
  • Dairy
  • Caffeine
  • Tomatoes & Peppers
  • Alcohol
  • Beef
  • Pork Products
  • Fish/Shellfish
  • Peanut butter
  • Fried Foods
  • Seasonings & Condiments
  • Anything processed
So what have I been LIVING ON?
  • Bread
  • Rice (brown and white)
  • Fruit (8-9 servings)
  • Plain steel cut oats
  • Green Tea
  • Green vegetables (frozen and fresh)
  • Almonds
  • Protein powder with water (1/2 portions at a time)
  • Crackers/Plain pretzels
  • Canned white chicken
  • Hard boiled egg whites
Giving up caffeine was horrible. I have been a coffee drinker since I was a teenager, and going without it felt like I was going through DRUG WITHDRAWALS. My head hurt, I was depressed, lethargic and my whole body ached. I was literally addicted to caffeine, and I never even realized it.

Over 3 weeks, I have dropped 10 pounds and am slowly adding more things back into my diet - based on what causes pain and what doesn't. By shedding my SOFT TOP LAYER, I can now see the muscles that have formed from riding FIFI and from carrying heavy-ass patients at work. My side bar pic of me in the gray jeans and also the striped tights is 'pre'-weight loss.

The hard part is to maintain my weight without getting to skinny. I'm not going for the 'BAG OF BONES' look.

I went to the gym today and did yoga and weight training to ensure I'm not losing my muscles and strength. I have to say I feel really good with the detox, but some days I simply do not have any energy. Its a 'try and adjust' routine until I can find a happy medium. I have to say though..... for being 40, I am in better shape than when I was 20. I don't think my stomach has EVER been this flat, it's kind of exciting.

Did you see the wood kitty pillar in the corner??

I picked up Ms. MEOW MEOW up at the flea market for 2e. On 'SPECIAL DAYS' I put her in the bathroom to scare entertain my bathroom mate. Remember my story about BLACK CAT (coworker smack down?). Ms. BLACK CAT is my bathroom mate - and believe it or not, but we're good friends. Its funny how a blowout can make for a beautiful friendship.

totally crackin up that we both had weight posts today. i need to head in your direction and cut some of my fat. my problem is bread here...nothing else. i eat it 5-6 times a day. there are many places to hike and get fit here but unfortunately it rains EVERYday. i just need to suck it up and endure the precipitation!!!

and the thing is called Hot Spot Shield. you just google it and download it (i hope it's not a virus LOL!) and turn it on to block your IP address when you want to use hulu and pandora. then turn it off when you're done. it's quite simple if i can figure it out LOL! :)

hope you had an awesome weekend!

sorry to hear you have been unwell. I have been needing to go on a body detox much like yours for some time ( i have a stomach condition and it can be hell) but i have been lazy and giving into temptation too often. At least wit your sickness has come a motivation to keep well and tone those muscles! also if can look like you at 40 i will be a happy woman!

Sorry to hear that you've been sick! You look fabulous before and after detox anyway. I can't believe you lost 10 lbs in three weeks!

Your tummy looks amazing. I'm a little jelly - I have to admit. I'm not saying I'm fat, but after having a child, I am beginning to carry more fat/weight in my tummy area. I've been trying to work out, but I'm lazy at that!

I hope you continue to feel better!

Sorry to hear you've been sick. At least it's getting you to eat healthier, right? :) Perhaps it doesn't seem so great right now, but your body will appreciate it later I'm sure. :D

P.S. My mom would adore Ms. Meow Meow, haha!

Damn, I thought you were way younger than me. I need to exercise :(

Sorry it's been such a trial but it sounds like it will be worth it when you've figured out your optimum healthy diet. Stick with it!

woah...ok you are not 40 - stop lying missy. More like late 20's

I think that is the only benefit of being sick, and I hope you feel better. Hopefully you are allowed to eat chocolate again, as that would be an outrage! hehe.

I like food too much, and my body is so healthy it won't allow me to get sick - which is good, but not good for the chocolate brownies I made on the weekend, oops!

Look after your self gorgeous. It's horrible to have to change your diet for health reasons. But I must say I am very jealous of your stomach I think your lost 10 pounds has come straight onto me.

You look great with and without the detox Michelle! My mom had gallproblems like that too - it was cause by her eating a lot of italian sausages one summer. It's probably high fat foods that cause such problems. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone for all of the sweet comments. It sounds like we all could benefit from the use of a little detox. So much easier to do when there is a health issue related.

I'll stop by all of your blogs to say hello. ;)
