You'll NEVER guess what I bought today

I went to the huge flea market in Homburg today and I picked up the most extraordinary item - an accordion. Yes, that's right  people - a vintage ACCORDION.

Last week I heard someone playing it during a festival and I was just drawn to it. Also I've been listening to this Parisian Jazz Cd, and the accordion music is in the background. It must have been subliminal programming........

Today while we were driving to the flea market, I mentioned how I would love to have an accordion. NO JOKE - within 30 minutes of arriving the perfect one for me MAGICALLY appeared.  It was the right size (some of them are extremely heavy and large), and the price was pretty reasonable.

Do I know how to play the accordion?

Uh........that would be a big NO.  But I have a musical background from my teenage years and I can read sheet music. Learning how to play the accordion can't be that hard, right?

Future family and social functions will involve me playing Parisian melodies, German Polkas and Italian love songs. Me and my fabulous accordion are going to be so popular everywhere we go.

HOWEVER........showing off my new purchase to others in the dorm resulted in looks of ODDITY and CONFUSION. Genuine looks of bewilderment were followed by questions of: "Why would you buy that?". "Do you know how to play?" "What are you going to do with it?".

My response: "I've always wanted one (well, as of this morning I wanted one) and I will learn how to play. Isnt' it cool?"

As always, I STICK OUT like a big sore thumb in the military community. Typical - but I wouldn't have it any other way. Who wants to be just like everyone else? Not me.

Ms. Accordion needs a name.
Any suggestions?

I would TOTALLY buy it too! I love that you went with your gut and knew that if it appeared right after you said that, then it was meant to be. Also like that fact that as I was reading your post a delightful Twiggy-esque Goldie photo was to my right sportn' an ivory accordian pleat all her own ;-) Well done Michele!

Oh how funny!

I looooove the accordion, too...probably because I grew up listening to Czech polka music and eating at a steakhouse near Waco called Heitmiller's where they have a "band" that's made up of an accordion player and a clarinet player.

I love your flea marketing outfit. You always look so cute!

P.S. I already know how to play the clarinet and if you learn how to play the accordion, OMG we could have our own band! Bahahaha

Oh, whoops forgot to suggest a name for Ms. Accordion...

I like alliteration, so I'm thinking Addie! Addie Accordion. :)

Tangled in Texas - I'm in!! What an odd combo though...a clarinet and an accordion. Maybe we should throw in a cow bell too. The steak houses would love it!

Hi Brande - you're so clever with tying in the pleated skirt and the accordion. I didn't even realize.....:)

Great suggestions on the name. I'm loving madame something.... and I'm leaning towards a two-syllable name so its FIFI and X. Hmmmm, so many great choices.....

Keep the suggestions coming and I'll pick one by the end of the week.
